3 May 2022 h 12:15, 4 May 2022 h 12:15, 12 May 2022 h 12:15

The academic staff of the Jean Monnet Module Solidarity in European Union Law is happy to announce three SoEULaw lectures on “Terrorism and Solidarity in EU Law“.

Terrorism and Solidarity in EU Law – Dr. Matteo Del Chicca

During the lectures, Dr. Matteo Del Chicca will explain the EU legal framework concerning terrorist attacks. The still problematic legal definition of many relevant terms, the distinction between a terrorist attack and a natural or man-made disaster with regard to the enforcement of the principle of solidarity, and the main tools useful to combat terrorism will be analysed. It will be highlighted that a terrorist attack occurring in a Member State can be delivered by a Third Party, but can also be planned and committed by a terrorist group (or individual) acting inside EU Member States. Moreover, it will be discussed the possibility of EU starting an external action to face terrorism and menaces located outside the EU Member States territory, in order to protect democratic institutions and the civilian population. Several international law cases will be commented and debated, such as the El AsnamK-141 KurskK-159 and Deepwater-Horizon cases.

Matteo Del Chicca is Lecturer of EU Law at the University of Pisa. He was a research associate to the World Maritime University (2014-2015). He has experience in teaching in Jean Monnet Modules since he participated in the teaching staff of the Jean Monnet Module on European Union and the Law of the Sea (EULOS).
