The academic staff of the Jean Monnet Module Solidarity in European Union Law is happy to announce four SoEULaw lectures on “Human Rights and Solidarity in EU Law”.
Human Rights and Solidarity in EU Law – Prof. Francesca Martines
The lectures will provide insight on how EU cooperation for development has traditionally been linked to the democratic principles of respect for human rights and the rule of law. Special attention will be given to the problematic issues involved, including the enforcement, scope, and function of the Solidarity clause for the implementation and respect of human rights. The course will also analyze the implications of EU’s international agreements standard human rights clauses.
Francesca Martines is Associate Professor of International law at the Department of Law, University of Pisa. After graduating (cum laude) at the Faculty of Political Sciences – University of Florence, in 1987, she obtained a PhD in Law at the European University Institute, Florence (1993). She was Lecturer of International law and European Community law at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Florence (January 1997 – August 2001). She has been responsible for international and European Law courses at the University of Florence, and Pisa (Department of economics and Law). She has been member of the Scientific Board, of a Joint Phd Programme, (University of Pisa, Florence and Siena) (from 2003 to 2011) and she is current member of a PhD Programme in International Law and EU law University of Pisa. She is co- supervisor (of a Ph.d thesis with prof. Charles E. Coté (University of Laval – Canada) and supervisor of a Ph.D thesis at Pisa University. She participated in several Research Projects of national interest (financed by the Italian Ministry of University and Research). She was speaker in several conferences. In August 2018 she was part of a Moot court with prof. Sabino Cassese and prof. Andrea Simoncini, on the freedom of religion. She is author of three monographs and several articles.
